COO, Financial Expert, Board and C-Suite Advisor and International Leadership, Experienced Engineer

Nick, an accomplished corporate leader and financial and risk expert, is a retired Senior Principal in Deloitte’s Risk & Financial Advisory Services (R&FA) business. His perspective and business acumen were gained from diverse experiences as Chief Operating Officer, working engineer, military commander, and financial, turnaround, and risk expert for domestic and multi-national organizations. He has helped public and private organizations, on matters of growth, resilience, organizational readiness and risk, and is skilled in areas such as M&A, joint ventures, reorganizations, intellectual property protection and monetization, Industry 4.0, supply chain risk, and digital transformation.

As a business unit leader, Nick held revenue generation, growth and market development responsibilities with full talent development and succession, and client satisfaction accountability. He developed and led the strategy for three new successful service offerings: construction advisory, commercial due diligence, and integrated transaction valuation.

Nick’s experience includes:

Mergers, Acquisitions, and Financial Advisory Support: Over the past 35 years, has led and advised on complex projects from transaction structuring, negotiations, due diligence, intellectual property monetization and financial analysis, to dispute resolution, and litigation support. Has worked on complex transactions in the A&D, real estate, manufacturing, hospitality, and technology sectors and for private equity investors like KKR, Blackstone, KSL Recreation, TPG, and Colony Capital. Global transactions have been focused in Japan, South Korea, China, and EMEA. Assisted three South Korean A&D companies in merging their operations (involved 3-way negotiations) and determine final equity positions in NEWCO.

Operational Leadership: As COO of Deloitte’s Financial Advisory (FA) business, he provided direction and oversaw the execution of business organizational strategy, structure, delivery models, talent acquisition and career development strategies. He defined areas of investment for future growth and enabled innovation processes. Chaired the U.S. FA Operating Committee. Served as a link with U.S. Firm CFO, firm operating committee, and other business leaders by providing input, insights, and recommendations on Firm strategy, marketplace, and operational issues. Also served as the U.S. liaison to the Asia-Pacific region of Deloitte’s Global Firm for Valuation Services.

Business Leadership: RMP of Financial Advisory (FA) in Pacific Southwest region assumed leadership of the region during a time of low revenue growth/profit margin and high turnover. Architected and led turnaround efforts achieving the highest level of revenue growth/profit margin and lowest turnover rate nationally. Restructured key operational levers, empowering managers and staff by creating a culture that was inclusive, innovative, trusting, collaborative, and focused on career progression. Realigned and focused target market efforts on key industries and service offerings. Additionally, led and oversaw international engagements. RMP of FA in Northeast Region: After taking on the role in 2007, successfully guided the practice (the largest region within the business function and the firm) through the 2008 - 2010 financial crisis and business downturn. Led efforts to realign market focus to meet real-time demands (litigation, bankruptcy, financial analysis, etc.), and restructured operations, attaining key performance indicators including talent realignment. The region realized a quick bounce back in operating results with the highest financial performance of all regions through 2013.

U.S. Risk & Financial Advisory (R&FA) Aerospace & Defense (A&D) Industry Sector Leader: Developed the marketplace strategy and led financial and risk related service offerings and eminence execution across U.S. and global A&D clients to further their growth, capability, mitigate risk, build scale, and transform business operations.

Education:

Nick is a graduate of Hofstra University with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering; Columbia University with a master’s degree in Industrial Management & Economics; New York University with an advanced professional certificate in Tax and Finance; and Harvard Business School with a certificate in leading Professional Services Firms. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and the Senior Accredited Appraiser designation (ASA) in Business Valuation from the American Society of Appraisers. Nick is also a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) and is a Governance Fellow.
